Sick hen - what to try?

Good morning.
Believe it or not she is still with us. Her breathing was even fainter this morning but still had fight in her to shake her head when I tried to water her.
I have bathed her legs in almost hot water and used some olive oil on a toothbrush to clean up her legs. Was anything meant to actually come off? I dont like using too much force.

I hope she will make it another 8hrs until I am home again. She is currently basking in sunlight in her cat bed. xx

Warm water is fine for washing the legs. You may or may not see anything come off the legs when you wash them, the oil should smother the mites. In about 3 days, just rub a little more oil into the scales.

I'm sorry she is not improving. Have you been able to get any water into her?

Hi all,
Hubby called a couple of hours ago saying SuperGirl didn’t seem to be breathing. I asked him to try to open her beak as that always sparked a reaction but he couldn’t open it. She was stiff and cold :hit
I had finished off the vitamins/electrolytes this morning but I don’t think much went down her neck.
The other 5 girls will be getting a full pamper this weekend to celebrate the mother hen.
Fortunately it happened without my children home. I must say Chooks are fantastic family pets and were a perfect addition for us with an Autistic child.
Thank you everyone for your advice and being on hand at my time of need. Much love to you all :hugs

P.s Lappin was not impressed that he had lost his spot.

I'm so sorry to hear about Supergirl:hugs

What a sweet photo of her with your lovely daughter.

Thank you. She was such a beautiful chook.

Here I am again. Another sick girl! I’ve gotten to her earlier than I did with Super Girl, hopefully. Spot is sleeping with me tonight. Made sure she’s had all the meds my local pet shop has advised me to give (he breeds birds of all sorts and sold me my two “babies” he had hand raised). He knew the breeder I got my first 6 from and agreed the elders are on the older end of the scale at 3.5-4yr old.
Spot is perky but she couldn’t hold herself up this afternoon. I only noticed she was fluffed up this morning. She is set up in the cat bed (again, lappin isn’t happy) with a dish of rice, pasta and yoghurt for when she gets the lights turn on at 4am and hopefully looks for a feed. When I get up 2 hrs later she’ll be in her cage with layer pellets as well.
I’m wondering if both girls had some water out of the pond? I’ve read tonight that can make them sick too. Happened to have cleaned it out yesterday when they had gone to bed so that’s a coincidence.
My Autistic son who adores the chickens will be devestated if another one goes. He still hasn’t gotten over losing Nugget a year ago who became a roo.
