My 3 year old Speckled Sussex hen apparently missed the bed time call last night as I was surprised to see her hunched down by the coop door this morning before I had let any of them out. I went in and did my usual routine of food in the feeders and water top up and let the rest out thinking the activity would get her up and moving …. nope … the rooster just jumped on her pecking her and then the other boss hen had a turn … I quickly scooped her up and put her in my garden side of our yard. She is just laying there, pecking and eating occasionally at her favorite weeds and she is grooming/preening. But I saw her poop and it was very runny (normalish yellow) then she didn't move away from it. Maybe breathing a bit heavy? No nasal discharges or other symptoms. Still laying in the same spot. I think I will set up a dog crate on my back deck. I did a quick search through the list of diseases in the sticky thread and the closest I could see was fowl cholera ?? Any advice would be appreciated as I haven't had any sick chickens before. She may Just be traumatized from being left out all night? 20200622_094705.jpg

There are many other diseases that could cause the symptoms you described. How old is she and has she laid eggs recently? Can you lift her up and feel her breast muscles for any weight loss, and look for any swelling in her lower belly between her legs? Also feel of her cop to see if it is empty and flat, or full, hard or puffy? Does she have any lice or mites under her vent and abdomen or on her back? Is she having any trouble getting around? Can you bring her to a dog crate with food and water so that you can observe her? Offer some watery chicken feed and some soft scrambled egg, and if you have some electrolytes, thise might be offered. More often reproductive or crop problems can cause them to separate themselves and feel ill.
