Sick Hen

I have a RIR hen who has been very slow the past to days. She isn't eating today that I have seen. I had to make her get out of the coop in order to get water this morning. As you can see in the picture she has an eye that looks a little swelled but the other eye is fine. She is drinking. She is actually staying close to the water. The bottom of her waddle is turning dark and swelled. She's not coughing or sneezing and that is water on the tip of her beak. She just stands there. She has laid the past two days. I haven't tried anything because I don't really know what to do. I have a white leghorn in the same coop but she seems fine.

This happened to my guinea. Never figured out the problem. It started with his eye, much like yours. Unfortunately I lost him to it. Everything just got worse and worse. He lost a lot of weight too. What about taking her to the vet?

I had to go pick up my dog. I took several pictures of her and showed him. The problem is I don't know how old she is. He said that the darkening means that she isn't getting enough oxygen. Said it could be her heart or a respiratory infection. Said we could treat her with Antibiotics but we could never eat her eggs again. He said to separate her from the other hen and just watch her.

Sounds like a good plan. Separation is a must, I would think. I would also make sure shes getting lots of protein in her diet. Eggs, turkey, etc... It's amazing what a high protein diet has done for my sicklings. Are you going to start the antibiotics?

I lost my RIR. Still wasn't sure what happened. The other hen still seems to be doing fine. Not knowing what it was we burned her last night in w burn barrel.
