I have a year old hen snd I found her just sitting on the ground with her head down by the coop. She didn’t even move when I was refilling the water but of course everyone else did. I thought she was dead. I splashed her face gently with some water hoping she might drink but she didn’t. I brought her inside and put her in the sink with a little water she sat down in it.
my son said she was doing that yesterday but
I Didn’t notice her doing that
She’s a barred rock and everyone picks on her but a week ago I bought four new hens which are in molt. She tried to pick on the rooster but he grabbed ahold of her comb and put her on the ground and sat on her. 😳. But I thought she learned her lesson.
After reading dozens of posts on here and searching symptoms of heat exhaustion etc. I’m at a loss. She’s inside in a cat carrier. I’ve put water in there but no food. I felt her crop and it feels like it’s full of seeds.
I can maybe give her electrolytes but don’t want to make it worse. She just sits and sleeps I don’t think she is eggbound. I can’t feel anything there

she has not pooped so I have no idea what it looks like.

Hope someone has some suggestions!

How old is your sick hen? Is her tail position down or up? Has she laid eggs recently? Were they normal? Can you insert a clean finger into her vent up to 2 inches to check for a stuck egg? That could be why she has not pooped. Is her crop full of seeds hard? Can you give her a spoonful of chilled coconut oil cut into small pieces to peck, and massage her crop? If you don’t have that, add a spoonful of olive or mineral oil to a little egg yolk. Crop disorders are common, and can sometimes be related to reproductive disorders. Look at her vent area and make sure there are no lice, mites, or maggots.

Thank you for your response. She is one year old and has been laying eggs for several months now. One a day no problems. I don’t really know which eggs she lays but none have had anything weird.

her crop is not hard particularly. Just can feel seeds.
Her tail is down. No straining.

I’ll check her vent shortly. Have to wait for someone to get here a hold her for me
