I have a 1 year old Barred Rock hen that is lethargic has no energy and stopped laying. She throws up brown discharge from her mouth when I pick her up. She also has watery brown diahrea. She is drinking but not eating. I have given her antibiotics in her water as well as the rest of my flock (8 Rhode Island Red hens and 1 RIR rooster). Has anyone out there had this problem , need advice. Thank You

have you checked her crop? Try massaging it. It might be impacted. Do a search to find out more about it. I have usually managed to clear it with frequent massage.

I'm sorry to say, I had one that died like that last fall. I gave her a sulfa antibiotic drench, baby vitamins and made sure she got some water in her. She perked up that evening but died early the following morning. I checked her for gape worm but did not see any in her throat.
Is she gaping for air? Give us all the signs and symptoms you notice. Maybe some one will be able to tell you what is going on. Just keep her isolated from the rest of the flock.
You may also have to go back into you post and leave another to "bump" your post up to the top of the list so it can be seen.
Good Luck.

Yes I have checked her crop seemed okay, I'll try the massage right now , I heard a little olive oil might help get things moving. I have grit and oyster shell available at all times. I,m going out now to lock the girls up for the night, let you know how things go. Thanks

I think with her throwing up, she may have a blockage somewhere. Can you try giving her yogurt or oatmeal, or a mashed up hard boiled egg mixed with some oil?

Yes I'm going to try the boiled eggs and oil first and the others if need be. This is a real bummer this great little hen is my daughters 4H project . Thanks for the advice, I'll let you all know how this turns out.
