I have checked for mites and she doesn’t have any since I separated the others from her but I do have mites in the chickens coop where the others are at and I am still in process trying to get rid of them .She looks awful. Poor girl
What's her complete diet, age. Coop space? Have you checked for mites or dewormed her?
Shes suffering from extreme malnutrition. Her diet is the same as the others in the coop which is corn and feed and here and there scratch grains and they get fresh vegetables and fruit daily . Her age i a not sure since I got hen at a livestock auction and they all free range . I have her separate from the other hens and roosters since I have 58 chickens and I don’t want the to step on her or peck at her .
She was egg bound a week ago and after that she became like this I had her for maybe 5 months since I bought her at a livestock auction . She is having a hard time breathing since she has a lot of mucus is there anything I could do to help with that .How long have you had her? She may be molting, and that is hard on some chickens. When I have seen illness, it comes on during molting or in severe winter weather. You should have your chickens on a complete balanced chicken feed—either layer or all flock. Corn, scratch grains, and any extras don’t have enough protein, vitamins or mineral and other nutrients. They are meant for just an occasional small treat. Things like wet chicken feed in a small bowl changed often with a bit of scrambled egg or tuna might get her eating some higher protein. Chicken vitamins such as Poultry NutriDrench 2 ml given daily might give her a boost.
Did she ever pass an egg when she was egg bound or ?She was egg bound a week ago and after that she became like this I had her for maybe 5 months since I bought her at a livestock auction . Yes she passed the egg it was two actually one big one fully shelled and a smaller one with no shell . The mucus is coming from her throat. Yes her crop is emptying every night the last thing she laid an egg was maybe a week ago since I kept her away from the roosters and kept her away from eating layer feed since she can’t walk so she won’t lay an egg. I treated the others with a pill that my mom bought for infection and it cured them fast .Did she ever pass an egg when she was egg bound or ?
I'd get extra calcium into her daily for a few days. You can find Calcium Citrate with D3 at Walmart.
If you have mites in your coop, likely she's got mites too.
I'd get some Permethrin poultry dust and dust her really well. Put the dust in a sock, tap it onto her like a powder puff and work the dust down through the feathers to the skin.
I'd see that she's eating the poultry feed as the main source of nutrition. Limit her treats to a small amount. Work on hydration as well.
She looks like she may be an older hen so she may be having some reproductive issues, do you know when she last laid an egg?
Check her crop - is it emptying overnight? Is the mucous in her throat or coming from her nostrils? Any lesions inside her beak?
Any bloat or fluid in her abdomen below the vent between her legs?
In a profile post you posted about sick chickens with puffy faces, sneezing, mucous, etc. How did you treat them? Could the mucous be her relapsing from respiratory disease
