Yes ma'am it could happen, its instinct it just comes naturally. The wire cage is a great idea, the cool breeze will keep her underneath cool!! Most abdomen issues are obvious, but a few aren't. just watch her and continue to take those eggs. If she is raising up her feathers thats broody, my hen raises up so big she looks like a basketball..lol and she growls.

Definitely broody — it's a hormonal thing so no rooster is required. In our flock of all hens our Australorp gal has gone broody once a year since we got her. We let her hatch chicks out last year — while it was a magical experience, I don't recommend it if you want friendly chicks!
