I am fairly concerned about one of my chickens... She has had this problem before and we wormed and doctored her up and she got better... but its happened again...
We wormed our flock last fall although we never actually saw any worms... two of our favorite girls got sick (one passed RIP Greta) and one we managed to save.... Both were Millie Fleur D'Uccles and we have a very broad mixture of chickens (Red Sex Linked Girls, Sebrights, OEGB) and so far they seem to be the only ones inflicted.... But worming seemed to help!
Well Clemmie is sick again and I kinda have some theories...
1. We gave them some bread a few days in a row... All chickens are free range but we put out layer and corn too. We though maybe we might have od'ed them on bread as maybe it was too rich for them?! Most of them had the runs for a few days... some seem to be getting better.
2. During the frequent bread giving, it also rained.... a lot... so the worms where out fiercely!!!! Bread and Worms all to much to handle?!
3. Maybe they have worms... Although, the poop is normal color just watery....And some even have normal poops now
4. Clemmie is acting funny... She is very lethargic... Not her peppy self... Kinda acting a little like Eeyore in one of his no body loves me moods. (which is how she acted when we though worms last time, except her poop was actually yellow then its just runny and normal color now)
So... Could it be worms again and there is just no signs?! Or maybe they ate a little more richer than normal?! But why is Clemmie acting like that?!
Plan of attack so far....
We dusted for lice/mites a week ago
Gave them all some yogurt today as a treat
planning to worm tomorrow
And adding electrolytes probably the next day (Gave Clemmie some today)
will probably dust for mites a few days later....
We are watching Clemmie close to make sure we can jump in when needed. We also try to feed her some food and we make sure she drinks (even with a little force) when we go out to visit. She is forging and looking for her own food, but doesn't have a lot of umph.
Also her crop is empty, but I can feel that it is gritty!? Normal? Also doesn't seem to be egg bound...
So... The final question?! Can they have worms without seeing any?!
And two... Can the diets get soooo rich that they have upset tummies and the runs and cause lethargy?!
