I have a Wellsummer hen that has a swollen face and swollen waddles. Does anyone have any idea what may be wrong with her? She is still eating and drinking but I have isolated her. I dont want the rest of my chickens to look like that. I have never seen anything like this before.

Without seeing her sounds like an allergic reaction. Do you think she was stung or bitten by a snake?? I don't know what you can give chickens but, I would assume a vet would give her prednisone IF she felt it was an allergic reaction.

WE THINK SHE MAY HAVE BEEN BITTEN BUT NOT SURE. THANKS FOR YOUR INPUT. WE APPRECIATE IT.

A sting or a bite may be a possibility. A close-up picture might help. Respiratory diseases can cause facial swelling, and while she is isolated you can watch her for nasal drainage, eye drainage and crusting, bubbles in the eye, and sneezing. Here is a link to look at: http//edis.ifas.ufl.edu/ps044
