first year with chickens. today when i let them out 1 of them stayed in the box,she was laying down tail in the air breathing heavy with her eyes closed.what could be wrong? at first i thought she was getting ready to lay, now i'm not sure. HELP!

I would watch her and see how she does. She may just be going to lay an egg. I had a hen act like that not long ago who then laid a really big egg! She could also be egg bound.

A few questions though: How old is she? How was she yesterday, anything off about her at all? Has she been eating/drinking moving around normally? Has it been hot enough to cause heat stroke?

I think at the moment I'd keep a close eye on her and see if she lays an egg and go from there.

Edited to add: So sorry to hear she passed. Sometimes crazy things like that happen and we never know why.
