When a chicken develops ascites it is secondary to some other problem. It can be caused by diseases of the liver/kidneys, heart/circulatory problems, reproductive tract/egg laying problems as well as cancers and other diseases. None of these things are fixable. If she is full of fluid it can be drained which does make them vastly more comfortable, makes it easier to breath and generally improves circulation. But it does not cure whatever the underlying cause is so the fluid eventually returns. Some birds can live for quite some time with regular draining, some die quickly, it just depends on what's causing it.

If you have access to an avian vet they can help you determine what's going on and, if she's full of fluid they can drain it off and show you how to do it if your up for it.
