Hello everyone,
I currently have a little over 2 year old ISA brown that has recently become ill. I have 31 birds altogether of mixed breeds and two being roosters. She has had quite the number of issues- her first year she ended up egg bound and passed a soft shelled egg on my lap after treatment and last year she injured her leg and has since recovered from that but with a permanent limp. She has had infrequent laying of soft shelled or brittle eggs. The last time I know she laid is over a month ago. I don’t know if she has laid since unfortunately. Her and her ISA sister have had some apparent reproductive issues- I have done enough research to understand that ISAs are bred for egg production, they don’t live long, and a lot end up having chronic issues. Anyways, recent symptoms I have observed, isolating away from flock, tail down, not eating and drinking a lot (and she was an eater!), not moving around much-wanting to just lay down and not wanting to stand. I did notice that her crop did not empty yesterday and felt squishy like there was water in it. It did go down throughout the day but I checked her again this morning and there was still a little bit of something in there. Poop is runny and yellowish. Comb has some purple on the tips. It did sound like she was wheezing the other day but I’m almost suspecting something pressing somewhere in her abdomen to cause that. Abdomen is normal feeling-not hard.
All my chickens currently eat Kalmbach brand chick feed- because of the roosters and I have 16 week old chicks. They have free access to oyster shells and I give them occasional crushed up egg shells.
Most recent treatment- I isolated her inside in our recovery pen, she did go out yesterday afternoon to be with the other birds but I brought her back inside at night. I gave her nutridrench Monday night. Yesterday I gave her food mash with calcium carbonate mixed in and some plain yogurt she did eat a little bit. I do have access to some antibiotics- do not want to do a vet- closest vet is 40 mins away and the avian doc is the only one at that practice and only there on certain days during certain times.
Any advice would be appreciated. My two ISAs are the sweetest and most friendly birds I have and her and her sister are my favorite. I also understand that attempts can be feeble.
