Sick Mama????

The eggs are gone. They were duds. She has 3 babies with her.

There is another poop that she is clucking and trying to push out. Hubby says it is soft, and unsure why she is having trouble. The poop was SO toxic! It smelled soooo bad!

Molasses water? Bread in olive oil? Oil on vent, oil enema?

She is really not eating.....drinking well, though. How about the squishy crop?

Second bath, second rock hard piece of matter. After, an olive oil enema produced some green poops. . .hard, but not big rocks. On the way from the bath back to the nest, she spit up all over me. She has a squishy crop. I have some Nizoral leftover from a lovebird who had a yeast infection in his crop, so I gave her 20 drops (his dose was 1 drop. . .he is 55 grams.) I only have one or two more doses of that, though.

The other hen is maintaining. Not eating much, but eating some. We felt that Mama was in a more dire situation, and, with chicks to think about, also, we have been concentrating on her. Henny seems to be in a much better situation than Mama. But I will conquer her issues, soon!

I would love thoughts on mama right now. . .spitting up, squishy crop, Nizoral, rock hard poops, oil enemas, etc.

OK, search "squishy crop and constipation" on this site. That seems exactly like your hen.

Their final diagnosis was an impacted crop or completely obstructed bowel. Until you figure it out, I would give her just sugar water so she doesn't get more backed up. Good luck and let us know.

Mama is GREAT. Mad at us when we come towards her for the babies! A few days of Nystatin did the trick.

Nystatin is not working in Henny.

She seemed to be doing much better, and now, today, is almost laying on her side. We syringe yogurt and water into her twice a day. I guess I'll call the vet tomorrow and see if we need to get her an antibiotic, but. . .I know several of you have mentioned cocci, but she has a HUGE squishy, burpy crop. Sigh.
