We have another sick hen and we have had a few lately, though no two have had the same symptoms. This hen is a Shaver Red, five or six years old. We have had her most of that time and she has never been sick with anything. She started with extreme lethargy about five days ago, just sitting, not interested in eating. I isolated her and have been offering her yogurt or cooked egg on her food, a small amount of fruit, plus aviacharge in her water. As long as her food has special stuff in it she is happy to eat it, but she will not eat plain feed. She had watery diarhea at first but I attributed that the heat and not eating. Her droppings returned to normal and for a few days she acted almost normal, but today she has whitish diarhea stuck to her feathers, and is very weak and lethargic. She can walk but just acts like it is too much to walk very far. This reminds me of avian TB because of the diarhea, we have had that in the flock before, but I wondered if anyone else had any ideas? Our flock has been under a lot of stress lately, they have been harassed a lot by hawks for the past couple of weeks, and on top of that we had a spell of very hot weather. It has cooled off again now though.

Can you try some oatmeal and banana for the diarrhea. I know it isnt going to cure the true problem but it will make her fell better while you are getting a diagnosis.

Im sure some of the other BYC'ers will be along to offer some more tips

I will try that, should I cook the oatmeal? I really think it's Avian TB, I reviewed the symptoms and I'm pretty sure If that's the case there's nothing we can do, anyway. My son received a hen as a graduation gift three years ago and she had it,(we didn't know til much later) a couple of other hens contracted it and all three died over a period of about a year or two.. They have been under so much stress from the hawks, that;s probably why the older ones are picking it up; it can exhibit a variety of symptoms but one they have all had is the white diarhea.
