Any sign of white stuff in her mouth or throat? I'm drawing a blank on the name, but there is a fungal infection that can narrow breathing tubes, and eventually suffocate birds. Copper sulfate is the remedy. Someone will know the name of the condition?

Hello, sorry to hear about your chicken. Have you checked her over well for lice and mites? Check near her vent and in warm areas like under her wings.

How was her crop this morning? It should be flat first thing in the morning.

You mention her foot being tender. Can you post pictures of her feet, top and bottoms, cleaned off.

If you can, get some human calcium citrate plus d3 for egg binding. Tums works in a pinch for egg binding, but calcium citrate plus d3 is more quickly absorbed.

Look her over well in her feathers for injuries hidden in feathers.

Her crop was flat. I have checked them for lice and mites and haven't seen anything. Her feathers are fine all around as well, but I will reinvestigate to make sure there weren't hidden wounds. I will get some pictures of her feet ASAP.

hardly, we have to dip her beak and she will then drink.

Canker and thrush I think both cause white patches on the mouth. Aspergillosis doesn't leave the whitein the mouth, but it's a serious fungal infection that can cause labored breathing like your bird seems to have.

Yes. Canker is the name I couldn't think of. Thank you! I had read that Aspergillosis sometimes caused white nodules in the mouth or throat. No? But, then, I had also read that it is untreatable, which is untrue. I don't know whether canker is different ... I guess it must be? I just know that I was once presented with the loveliest Tom, who had advanced canker (white plaques coating his mouth and throat). He died within a couple of hours of his arrival. I had, only moments before, located the remedy, and had none on hand. I still agonize over that event. Turkeys are such beautiful, gentle creatures. In ANY case, I can't see that putting some copper sulfate in the water could do any harm (dosage info is out there; let me know if you would like help finding it). They seem to use it preventatively, in any event. Horrible stuff, that canker.

Oh my gosh, I am so sorry!! That is heartbreaking.

And thank you for mentioning the white patches. Teamwork, right? Lol. I wouldn't have thought of it at all if you hadn't mentioned that.

Has she shown any interest in water at all, either on her own, by you gently dipping her beak into some water, or even putting a drop on her beak with your finger or a syringe?

she has drank if we dip her water and when we refilled their waterer last night she hobbled over to try and drink

Trying to drink is good. That means she's still fighting. I feel like if this was heat exhaustion, she'd be turning around being cooled off and offered water. But maybe not if it was severe?

I'm so sorry I'm not more help. I'm just very new and trying to pull all the information I've read out of my brain.

I have to say, that sometimes times there are underlying conditions that come up once they start laying. If she is willing to eat and drink and move than she stands a chance. However when chickens go down, they go down fast.

Another thought is injury. But again it can be hard to tell.

I believe it was on Sunday but may have been saturday evening. I was out of town.
