I have a 4 year old Polish Rooster named* Fragle Cock* well I noticed a few days ago he wasn't purching up with his lady's, he just slept on the ground as if he didnt have the strength to fly up so I knew something was wrong. The next day he was kinda hiding with his head in the corner of the pen and not eating with the rest of my chickens so I went ahead and brought him in where hes been now for the second night. Symptoms- won't eat or drink on his own, I have to put the food (boiled egg, 28% protein crumbles, scratch grain) peice by peice in his mouth and he swallows it. I've been using a syringe filled with electrolytes to keep him hydrated. I bathed him making sure it wasnt external parasites and I've seen his poo and I dont think its internal parasites, (its not a respiratory issue, no runny nose or yucky eyes or gasping for air) He actually stood up on his own today after his bath but rather then that he just lays there with his head down sleeping constantly. Ive raised birds going on 9 years now and I've never had a bird do this! I'm just lost as far as a diagnosis! The 1st pic is tonight & 2nd pic is last week so as you can see hes not doing well and he's been my baby since I hatched him so this is a real bummerand ideas or recommendations would be great and much appreciated! Thanks in advance!!!

My guess would be something internal like organ failure or even that he ate something that is binding up his digestive system. I have read post of birds with their crops full of strings and nails.

Very well could be...I sure hope not though! I'm hoping he snaps out of it. I live in Oklahoma and the past few night's its been really cold and that's when he started acting weird. Thank you for your reply!

I would tube some Corid. Cocci can attack at any age. If you have an antibiotic, you can give that too.
He's not getting a bath outside is he?

Hi thereI have had him on Baytril for 2 days now, this afternoon he started drinking on his own and not 2 hours later hes now eating on his own! I should continue to get better from here...I just wish I knew what caused it to begin with! Thank you for your response!!

it could be any common bacterial infection. I'm so glad he's eating. Make sure you continue the full course of antibiotics.
