This 17 month old production red started wheezing intermittently three days ago. Very active, good appetite. She seemed well in the mornings, maybe a bit husky, and the wheezing got worse as the day goes on. Today she emerged from the coop wheezing and visibly laboring to breathe, eyes closing, beak opening to inhale. Still eating, laid for sure yesterday but shell too fragile to support itself.
Nostrils are dry, stool normal to watery, comb looks bright and the usual colour.
The other four flock mates are fine.
What should I do for this poor girl? It wasnt till today that she seemed to be physically uncomfortable.
I've tried to massage her throat but cant feel anything.

The video just shows the hen standing quietly while she closes her eyes, breathes in and out with head dipping slightly with each breath, beak opening slightly with each breath, and a decided rasping sound with each breath.

To post a video, you first need to upload to You Tube, then link/post it here.
What are you feeding? Do they have access to Oyster Shells? What are you using for bedding in the nest box?

Possible a respiratory issue ... This is from my notes: Respiratory Infection/MG - Tylan 50 (.2cc per lb 2 - 3x day 5 days), Denagard
(Mycoplasma Gallisepticum)

But I'm not good at diagnosing, so will ask for more help ....

@Kiki ... Know you're online and I'm sure this member needs help ASAP. Thank you in advance

You have to upload it to YouTube first.

How long have you had these birds?
Have you brought any other birds home recently?
Had them since hatching... 17 months, no other exposure to other chickens.
Coincidentally I just cleaned out the coop after being away for three weeks, so there were some piles of droppings accumulated under the roost. There was chopped straw as bedding. I replaced it with local hay, and put hay in the nest box. I won't be using hay as bedding again... learned fast it is impossible to separate from the droppings.
The hen started wheezing the day after I cleaned out the coop.
This afternoon she has started to cough occasionally. She is not interested in her commercial layer pellets but will eat insects etc. I gave her some scrambled egg and she devoured it and then was in distress because it was hard to eat and breathe at the same time.
I'll try the youtube method, thank you!
