Hello! This is my first time hatching so any and all advice is welcome! One chick came out extremely weak, when it fluffed up and I removed it from the incubator it was completely floppy and silent, couldn't open its eyes or hold its head up. I kept it isolated and warm, held it and fed it sugar water. In the next 6 hours or so it began to hold its head up and peep(loudly). It then started leaking a yellowish fluid and passed some black stool. This was yesterday afternoon, and it has been isolated since. It is now walking well, pooping, eating a bit from my hand and drinking water. My question- is this chick sick or just weak? I hate keeping it isolated but don't want to risk the health of the other chicks. One other chick came out around the same time as this guy with lots of blood and a burst yolk sac and died so I am concerned about possible infection, they did spend some time in the incubator together and both eggs were from the same hen.

Do you have your brooder setup?

If the chick can walk, is pooping, drinking and eating, put her with the others and see how she does.

Hi,

First, I never take them out of the incubator until they're running around and fluffy. Sometimes one will just need more rest and time to absorb their yolk. That extra time in there helps them immensely.
If it's possible, I'd put them back in there for overnight. You can turn it down to 95F.

Raw egg yolk is usually a good fixer of weak chicks. I put a few drops of Poultry Cell or Nutri-Drench in it. I use a small syringe or eye dropper, but a spoon works too.

I had replied this on your duplicate post not realizing you had this one. I merged them.
