Sick polish

I’ve been giving nutridrench plus separate b1 100mg plus 1000IU of E plus selenium and I just added B complex liquid. Started regimen last night.

As far as her crop. I’m not sure. This morning it was partially full but she had access to food. I haven’t seen her eat today yet. Last night she was still standing and eating/drinking on her own. Now she is either on her haunches or sitting.
Re-check her crop first thing just to rule out crop problems.

Also how much Selenium is in the E+Selenium? If 25mcg or under that should be fine, but if it's over, then switch to just E and add egg or tuna for Selenium (toxic in large quantities is toxic, we also ran into that here on BYC).

If she is hock walking now only, you can start working on making her a sling to make her more comfortable. Sometimes they can rub sores on the legs. Of course like anything you would move her out of the sling during times you can't watch her or at night. A lot of people find the sling does seem to help with various conditions.

Sorry to read about your lame Polish pullet. If it is riboflavin (B2) deficiency, then you should see some improvement soon by giving a small dose of the B complex. Unfortunately, it sounds very much like Mareks disease. The vaccine only treats one of the 3 strains of Mareks. I am presently treating my vaccinated 8 year old hen with sudden imbalance. She can move her legs, but has no balance or control. I haven’t had a case since I first got chickens, so I have been hoping that it is something else.

Since you have dealt with this type of illness, you know to keep her food and water within reach. Some find that a homemade chicken sling can be helpful to get them up out of droppings where food and water can be placed in front of them. My hen tried to kill herself when I tried the sling, and she would get out and run tumbling, but I needed a taller one.

Is there any chance that your pullet suffered a head injury? My Polish hens were frequently having their head feathers pecked out, and one was scalped and hurt by a young cockerel. Mareks does cause many changes in the brain. Please let us know how she gets along, and if there is improvement.

Thank you. I guess it’s possible she was pecked but I didn’t see it. As far as the Mareks vaccine from my understanding the neurological is the most common vaccine strain and the most common one to present. I need to research that more I guess but from my understanding she could still get neurological Mareks post vaccine but usually won’t get the tumors and will have a mild presentation. I’m also hoping not Mareks since my others were tested and negative and all new additions are vaccinated.

She hasn’t eaten today. Not as bright eyed or perky as her sister was. Her sister fought for 2 weeks and couldn’t move her legs :-( But again A&M had no idea. My vet even sent her videos to A&M while alive and they said not Mareks (her legs were both forward). They thought a spinal infection. So frustrating. Hoping my girl is better tomorrow!

She died :-( In the past it’s been a 2 week plus ordeal so I’m happy she left me quickly. I’ll send her for necropsy. I’m just at a loss because it was so sudden.

@pugspigchicks I am sorry :hugs
You tried everything you could, including reaching out here, to try save her. It will be good to find out what happened so you know what you are dealing with and if it might effect the rest of your flock.
I know you probably don't want to think about it right now but an update with the necropsy results would be much appreciated. I am sorry.
