Hi everyone!
Springs finally here, hope yall are having a good time this hatching season!
I picked up an order of started birds from my local feed store that came from Freys Hatchery in Ontario.
I had ordered three 4week old Orlopp Bronze poults and some 8 week old columbian rock pullets.
When I checked them out at the feed store they were all huddled together laying down which o figured they were cold from being outside in the wind (they only kept the day olds inside the store) and figured they were laying down because the box was short.
So I brought them home, let the pullets into their coop (a seperate little isolation coop) and brought the turkeys into the brooder (just them in there). I gave them a turkey starter, grit and some water with a booster (vitamins and electrolytes) meant for turkeys.
When two hours had gone by, I noticed two of the three seemed lethargic, sick and honestly looked on their way to death. The third, although in kinda rough condition seems reasonably healthy and is peeping, eating and drinking. I've now separated the healthy one.
Their symptoms are lethargic, laying down, not eating or drinking much, fluffed up, eyes closed and they lay with their necks stretched out in front of them with head resting on the floor. Missing a lot of feathers as well with big bald patches.
I've contacted freys and left a message, I've never ordered from a hatchery here except mcmurrays in the states (which I was happy with) and let them know whawhat's going on. I'm prettty unhappy as they were quite expensive compared to getting them from a private breeder. They left a message saying to email them a picture and all their symptoms and someone will get back in a few days but I don't think they will make it that long.
We lost our royal palm pair last year to a dog (which also attacked our small dog and he had to go to the vet) and were very excited to get these new poults and now I'm quite dissapointed!
Does anyone have any idea on what else I can do to at least keep them alive a few days in hopes of getting replacements? Any advice or help will be appreciated!
They also seem like they have week legs.
Sorry for the length of this, wanted to be thourough and needed to vent a little.
Needless to say, I won't be ordering from there again if this isn't sorted out. I'd rather pay the 75 dollar fee to order from mcmurrays and bring them across the border! These three cost nearly 70$ anyway.
Hope everyone's having a better spring than me!
Thanks,
Kylie
