Sick Pullet, Unknown Cause, Help/Advice Requested

My sweet girl did not make it.

Rest in peace, little Miss Inez.

I’m so sorry to hear that. :hugs Sometimes they just don’t make it despite our best efforts. If you have the stomach for it you can perform a home necropsy to see if you can find the cause. But in my experience unless the whole flock is struggling with something it isn’t necessary.

So far, the rest of the flock is good. I'm anxious because she went from not wanting to come in so she could get one last bedtime snack, to extremely lethargic and not wanting to eat or drink, overnight. If she had diarrhea before that hit, i missed seeing it in the run. But given the diarrhea she had, I think the strongest possibility is coccidiosis. That was the only symptom I saw of anything. I have the rest of the flock on corid, and will keep them on it at the upper dose for a couple of weeks, then lower it for a couple of more.

The sweet girl just could not get her strength back. She was the one bullied as a chick, and was my shadow after that. I could not go into the coop or run without immediately having her right by me, helping with everything I did.

I feel like all I can do now is watch the rest of the flock closely and pray no one else gets it that bad.

Thank you for the support and advice. This forum has been good to me. Hopefully some day, I will have enough knowledge to help others in return.🩷
