sick pullet?

Thanks, LW1. I thought so. I have my Corid here since my own episode and vowed I'd always have some on hand. Next question. Can this recur in the same chicken?
New to chickens, I be. Earlier on, at about 3 weeks of age or so I noticed similar symptoms in one of the babies for several days. Too dumb or too much in denial to do anything at that point, but the chick pulled through it herself. I would imagine that it would depend on how colonized the bird gets.....the more the concentration of critters in the system....the worse the condition. But the last episode I had already joined BYC and learned the ropes through them talking me through it.

Losing a pet is so very hard for us, whether it's a dog (our most recent loss,14 years old), a cat or chicken. We simply love life. As your signature says: The Lord God made them all. So I guess we love life because we are made in His image...So we love life because He does.

Yes, it can recur in the same chicken. It is much like any other parasite in that respect. The older they get, the more resistant they become but, in times of heavy oocyst load in the soil, chickens of all ages are susceptible. Also, in times of stress or if their immune system is already compromised by another illness, Coccidiosis can be foudn to rear its ugly head! Keep that Corid on hand and you will be good to go!!

Murdochs usually is so helpful, yesterday they were not. Had my favorite chicken lady been working it would have been a different story. :(
I am waiting on some Corid in the mail. I also saw an add for some chickens at a feed store in another city close to here, I am going to call them today and ask if they carry it. I like the idea of having a medicine cabinet of sorts and will work on stocking it with some important things. Thanks again to you all for sharing your knowledge and experience. It's been so good to learn about all of this stuff.

Hello LeCoop,

Just checking in with you to see how you and your daughter are doing and also the rest of the flock. Would strongly encourage you to treat them all when the Corid arrives. Have a blessed w/e

Awww, thanks! We are doing ok. My husband took Rylee out today after school and helped her dig a hole. Low and behold, he dug up a dog that someone had burried over 30 years ago. We know this because my husband's grandparent's owned this home before we did and they bought it when my husband was 4. Crazy.
Rylee is ok. She is an old soul and is an emotional little girl. So each time now that she finds a Molly feather she cries. I am sure it will get better. She has experienced a few deaths in her short 8 years. I have kept a few of her feathers and suggested Rylee could make something out of them. A necklace or earrings. She liked that idea. So we will work on that this weekend. Poor thing.

We have already spoken with another friend and her daughter who have some 12 week old pullets. Mille Fleur D'Uccle Bantams. So I think we will get one of those so that the other one has a friend. I do plan to treat all of them as soon as the Corid arrives. I got a shipping notice today, so maybe by Monday...

Thanks again for checking in on us.

Le coop,

Sorry your dd is taking it so hard:( My kids are starting to freak out as Star gets worse.

Do you all feel it def is Cocc?? I'm asking bc the symptoms seem very similar to what my pullet is doing and I'm not sure how to treat. I do suspect she will die today as she started having seizures this morning. Looking into euthanizing:(

I am not sure what to say about yours. Mine did not make it more than 24 hours after first showing signs of being sick. So who knows if mine was really Cocc either. I did not however have any medication to help her so that did not help.

I am not one to let my pets suffer, so if it were me and I knew she was struggling I too would be looking into giving her some peace. Poor Star.
