A few weeks ago, my husband brought home a chicken that he found wandering on the side of the road. She looks to be a Rhode Island Red, and at the time she was in bad shape. After some food and water, she was acting a little better, but she had foamy eyes, and a discharge coming from her beak. I called a vet and they wanted to charge me WAY too much for an exam. So I got some antibiotics that I have been putting in her water, and some VET Rx remedy that I was dropping in her eyes and nose. She is acting a lot better now. She takes dustbaths, her appetite is good, and she lays an egg almost every day. However, her eyes are still foamy and she still has the mucous on her beak.

My question is, when do I give up on her recovery? I really don't want to, but she is currently quarantined in the area where I would like my healthy chickens to be, and I don't want to spread anything to them. Also, can we eat her eggs? They look completely normal, but I've been throwing them away. I would really appreciate any feedback, I'm pretty new to keeping chickens. Thank you!

Hello----Im new too---just had chickens 8 months now--- and I have some sick too----but Ive been reading lots of these posts and on my medicine it says not to eat the eggs for 1 week after all medications and you should quarentine for at least 30 days----1 sick chicken is not like have 40 sick chickens so keep them seperated. I tried to get medicine from tractor supply here and they dont carry it, and tried to order on internet and it will be 4 days to even mail it out, so I am trying the stonger antibiotic that I got at southern states. if you need the names email me at [email protected] Good Luck Teresa in WV
