I’m new to chickens and have a small flock of 6 hens and 1 rooster (so I thought). Love my rooster, mellow, friendly with a sweet soft crow. About a week ago, I started to hear a very obnoxious crow and soon discovered 1 of my hens was not a hen. This “new” rooster became very agressive, dominating and mean very fast. Since that happened my sweet Roo stopped crowing and became withdrawn. The nasty rooster is now gone and my sweet roo is very weak, can barely stand up and lost color in his comb. I have him isolated in case he is contagious but I don’t know what I can do to help him. Any advice would be appreciated. I will post a pic of how he looked before and how he looks now. Thank you!!

I’m sorry to here your rooster is not feeling well. He was probably stressed from the introduction of a new rooster. Is he eating and/or drinking? Does his poop look normal?

I have not seen him eat or drink today. His poop it watery.

Ok, I do notice a slight purplish color on his comb in the first pic also. Does he have a favorite hen you could put near him? That may help him eat. Or offer scrambled egg.

Was he eating before you separated him?
His eyes beak and feathers look good. His face is a little pale, did you check for mites or lice?

Can you get a pic of his poop?

This was on another thread for purple comb

So sorry he's gone.

I've seen it posted that sometimes a purple comb is the result of heart problems.

He actually looks like he has aged. At first I thought it was a pic of each of the Roos, not the same one.

I hope someone can help with this.

Roosters can get some sort of virus that causes them to lose their voice, we have had that happen a few times over the past years. They can get quite ill so you really need to start them on antibiotics, Tylan or at the very least Duramycin, 4 teaspoons per gallon, for ten days to two weeks. Isolate him so you can treat him, though if it's what ours have had, it doesn't seem to be very contagious, I have never seen it spread to the others, we've only had isolated cases. It is important to start aggressive treatment right away though b/c once they start showing symptoms like that, they're already pretty ill. Give him whatever he likes to eat; keeping them eating is important; ours like cottage cheese, apple sauce, scrambled or chopped hard boiled eggs, cooked oatmeal, when they are sick. As in any time one is sick, start the others on vitamins and disinfect everything you can with Oxine or bleach, and watch the rest of the flock for symptoms.
