Hey, we just got a new pair of about a year old silver seabright ( I think I said that right) today. Well, dumb me put them in a small pen inside out big run. Well it rained and of course I sat then under one of the roof drain holes. Well the hen is okay but the roo is having a hard time. He is making noises when he is breathing and having a hard time staying awake. Please help! What do I do?????????????

Is he in a warm dry place now? I believe Sebrights are somewhat sickly. They need to be warm and dry all the time! Of course, he could have been sick when you got him and didn't know it.

Yeah he is in our bathtub in the cage with his mate and a heat lamp. He was doing perfectly earlier today when we got them, even wanted to fight the HUGE Buff Orpington we have, though they couldn't get to each other because of the seperate areas. He is coughing some now and is actually shaking water out of his head it seems.

try to get him dry, feed him a small amount of yoghurt, keep him quiet with the hen and dont move him. A nice quiet spot for days and days. Some people give terramycin in the water when they take birds to shows, this may help. Or a vite electrolyte supplement for chickens. Both can be found at a farm store. Use either the Terramycin or the elect/min/sugar supplement; not both at same time. But use supplement after Terramycin. Also try a scrambled egg. Dont put him by your chickens

He might be getting a cold. Just keep an eye on him. Perhaps force some fluids in the morning if he doesn't drink on his own. Do you have any Vet Rx? I use that when I suspect a cold...you rub it on their face/nostrils and it helps them breath easier.

I scrambled the egg and put it in their cage. They haven't eaten it yet but both are pecking at their other food. He keeps trying to fall asleep and i keep waking him up. I don't know whether to let him or not. Do I? Also, as his head starts to drop he will cluck and perk back up. He is walking around the cage but still trying to drop off to sleep it appears. He will be standing there and his eyes close and his head starts to drop. Then either I will wake him up or he will cluck or the female will cluck to him and he will wake up.

I don't have any VetRx, all I have is Vicks vapo rub which I imagine won't work, right???

describe his droppings..color and consistency.
check his crop..see if it has any lumps, or grainy feeling..
impacted crop will cause water to come up..
also, check his mouth and throat for whitish or yellowish sores.
is he actually eating, or just pecking?

does the water coming out look like mucus, or water?
is it coming from his nostrils, or from his mouth?

His poo looks normal. No abnorml stuff about crop. No sores in mouth, it looks good. The liquid coming out is clear, just like water. He and his hen are sleeping though he keeps waking up to cluck. His color looks better, he was really getting pale but now is nice and red around his face. Still worried, but hopefully he will make it through. Thanks so much for all the help!
