1) What type of bird , age and weight (does the chicken seem or feel lighter or thinner than the others.)

Silkie, 6 months, not sure

2) What is the behavior, exactly.

Lethargic, head down, hunched stance, tail down, not standing for long, falling asleep while standing, not eating or drinking, ruffled back feathers, dirty vent

3) How long has the bird been exhibiting symptoms?
Received her via shipping from a breeder Tuesday afternoon, she was fine the first day. Next day I found her on her side when I returned from work around 5 pm. She’s been unwell almost a week now.

4) Are other birds exhibiting the same symptoms?
No, she came with another silkie in the ship box and she’s acting completely normal.

5) Is there any bleeding, injury, broken bones or other sign of trauma.
No

6) What happened, if anything that you know of, that may have caused the situation.
Breeder thinks it’s coccidiosis caused by the pine shavings she was shipped in.

7) What has the bird been eating and drinking, if at all.
Nothing. I have been syringe feeding her baby food and water with Corid since last Thursday morning.

8) How does the poop look? Normal? Bloody? Runny? etc.
Yellow and runny, not frequent

9) What has been the treatment you have administered so far?
2 table spoons for 1 gallon of water of Corid. Syringe feeding her this mix multiple times a day. 6 days

10 ) What is your intent as far as treatment? For example, do you want to treat completely yourself, or do you need help in stabilizing the bird til you can get to a vet?

I have been trying to get her better at home, would prefer not to take to the vet but will if there’s no other way.

11) If you have a picture of the wound or condition, please post it. It may help.

12) Describe the housing/bedding in use
She’s been isolated from all the birds since she arrived. She’s in a pen on the porch. With food and water.

She improved Saturday and Sunday then was lethargic again Monday and today.

Firstly, make sure she is drinking at least 1 pint of water per day.
Offer her some scrambled eggs, or some yogurt, nothing sticky or hard or in any way less than effortless to eat.
if she hasnt eaten in 3 days, I recommend either a vet or a shovel.

lastly you should post in New Member Introductions. Say hi, who you are, general area you are from, and then say you joined because of your sick silkie. Link this thread, and the dread horde of silkie lovers will arrive soon to assist in saving this poor bird

Thank you, she won’t eat scramble eggs. I’ll try yogurt tomorrow.
