I bought four week old silkys off of craislist two weeks ago and lost one last night. It was the runt only about half the size of the others and had pasty butt. I separated him with his own light but I think he was just too weak:( now one of my other silkys is acting lethargic and kinda has crusty eyes. They all had pasty butts to start with but they seem to get better then worse again. Is there anything I can give them to keep their strength up? Any idea what this illness could be?

Ill try that thank you I lost another one tonight:( so hopefully they wiil have some at TSC

Hi I have eleven silkies myself. When mine were real little they got pasty butts too. I went online and read that pasty butts can kill them, because they are not able to poop. I know this may sound gross but you need to wash them. I used warm water and a wash cloth. If it's really bad you may need to dip there whole bottom in the water. They will make a fuss and make you feel bad, but trust me it can help. Also if they are weak a little bit of sugar water will help them get energized. Not to much though. I really hope all goes well. I love my silkies to death and hate when they get sick.

You could also try calling one of your local feedstores such as olsens grain and descrbing the symptoms they may be able to offer some advice. Good luck!

Thanks for the advice. I do wash their little butts and put olive oil on them to keep the poo from sticking. The two that are left seem strong still so I'm hopeful they are going to make it.

So sorry for your loss, hope your other 2 make it. They are my favorites, sweet and gentle, you will love them.

Poly vi sol No Iron is good in their water. Silkies need the vitamins, they can get wry neck, you will want some on hand and just give them about a half dropper to a quart of water.

Good luck
