We have a 2 month old tom that got left outside overnight in a pretty bad rain (Sunday night). Now he's not eating, color is bad, and he isn't eating. We have him in a separate pen, under a heat lamp and have been giving electrolytes but he doesn't seem to be recovering. He's drinking lots of water but has a hard time keeping it down and has deveoped diarrhea. Is there anything else we should do?

Welcome.

You mentioned he has a hard time keeping water down? Just not swallowing completlely or coming back up after being swallowed?
You might try feeding some scrambled eggs mixed with regular food.

Is is skin warm and dry or cool and dry to the touch? Is he panting or wheezing? Is color dusky/bluish?

Thank you!

Yes, he appears to be swallowing completely. He doesn't show any interest in food, at least that I can see. We tried a hardboiled egg (broken-up) but he hasn't touched it.

His skin was heated yesterday when we discovered he has left out but improved yesterday. Now it is more purple-ish.

He is not panting or wheezing, just listless.

Thank you for your input!

We lost our big three year old Slate tom last month to pulmonary E. Coli (fine in the afternoon, dead by midnight). He was cool and dry to the touch (highly unusual-normally hot and damp) and panted when he stood up (sneezing sound-but was actually gasping for air) this followed a week during which we received nearly seven inches of rain (probably splashed up and inhaled). So it could be an infection. Problem is it could be viral (not bacterial).

If he continues to fade you might try Tylan or PenG (antibiotics available at feed stores) .

Wishing you the best!
