Sick Turkey

I have a sick turkey. He's got yellow diarrhea and goopy eyes and doesn't want to move much. He also doesn't want to eat. It started out with him just sleeping a lot and gradually progressed. Nobody else has anything yet. Anybody know what this might be and/or what to do about it?

Please define "goopy eyes" does it look like bubbles or foam? , any discharge from the nose or swelling of the face? There are a few different respiratory diseases they can get, some can cause the yellow diarrhea that you are seeing. How long has it been going on? You need to isolate the bird and start antibiotics right away.

Yes, the eye discharge looks like foam. No other discharge from anywhere, no coughing, breathing weird or anything else that is obvious. Just the eyes and the sleeping a lot. No swelling anywhere. He's been this way almost a week. He is isolated. What sort of antibiotic should I use?

It may be hard to find locally you might have to order it. A feed store or Tractor Supply might carry it

Aureomycin will also work - it is labled for chronic respiratory disease and infectious synovitis that's your foamy eye problem.

The Aureomycin should be availble locally.

Terramycian is pretty much useless in larger birds - it will help with chicks and poults however.

One thing to always remember when treating is don't over medicate, follow the directions to the letter. I know it's not easy if you have pet birds etc but the other option is to cull. Birds that get sick are weaker, you don't want to use them for breeders, by saving them you are really weakening your flock overall. We use the cull method here and over time it does result in a stronger flock. Hope that helps some?

Thank you for all the help! I tend to agree with the cull method, but this is my only tom and turkeys are few and far between around here, unfortunately. I hoped to get a few turkey generations going before I had problems. Oh, well.
