We just brought this guy home from the local animal shelter two days ago. We noticed at the time that he had some slight swelling under one eye (at the edge of his mouth kind of), but he seemed fine otherwise. Today, his neck is all swollen and he sounds congested. (pic attached)

Should I take him to the vet tomorrow or attempt to treat at home using over-the-counter meds? I'd like to avoid a costly vet visit if at all possible, but don't want to risk his health...

Here's a list of some leftover medications in my avian medicine cabinet -
Oxytetracycline (big bag of powder)
ZydaClin (clindamycin) oral drops
Doxycycline
Clavamox
Metacam
VetRx (some kind of natural/homeopathic type of remedy for respiratory symptoms, I think)

Any suggestions are appreciated!

There are a few other threads recently that show birds with the same symptoms. Possibility of snake bite to that deadly avian virus that is decimating flocks around the country.

Keep him quarrantined. I would take to vet. If you can find one that will see birds.

I say take him in and keep him away from ALL of your fowl. It looks like the avian flu. here's a pic of another poor soul's bird who got the avian flu.
