Sick, weak duck, what is wrong, what treatment?

Yes, she has had many vet visits...but all say the same, they don't know what it is...that I should just put her down...but it's so hard for me to put her down when she is still in this state...at first they had her on antibiotics..then they thought calcium deficiency ..so I started oyster shells in her diet and the rest of the flock..cause it so happened that the rest of my females stopped laying..and the few that did..where shell-less and broken by the morning...so it's been 3 days they have been on this oyster shell mixed with their feed..no more corn...I just want a sign that she is getting better..or even..if she is getting worse cause then I know what to do..cause this state of no change is weird..still haven't located where to buy Brewers Yeast..heard niacin could help? I've looked everywhere...keep you guys on Daisy's progress...thanks for the support!

mine wasn't eating, and wasn't social. she just slid slowly.... i'm sad she's gone, but am relieved that she's not slowly dying anymore. I hope yours gets better.

Sorry to her your loss. We lost a female Pekin in similar fashion in February.

We still did not know exactly what caused her death but looking back, we think there were many possible causes

cold temperature
the whole pen was covered with ice and snow
lack of calcium (all covered with snow and frozen)
lack of grit (all covered with snow and frozen)

This year, we are going to add a roof to the pen and also wrap the whole thing in plastic.​

What EXACTLY were you feeding the flock? What is the condition of their quarters? Are they indoors? Outdoors? Is there bedding clean?Do they have ample water (enough depth to dip their bills and clear nostrils)?

You have to pin this down step by step or you will be sentencing them all to an eventual death. Sorry, but has to be said.

My two ducks had a 6'x8' duck house that is attached to a 10'x16' run/pen. The house was roofed but the pen is not. Inside their house, there was also a dog house. The bedding was clean.

I fed them layer crumbles with some grains and peas.

They came into the garage during the night. Both stayed in a large plastic tote with a thick layer of pine shavings.

I used two large heated dog bowls so they can wash their nostrils.

The one died laid two soft shell eggs then stopped. She laid a total of 165 eggs non-stop. Then she gradually lost some weight and died about three weeks stopping laying.

Now I have the remaining Cayuga female with two three-week old Pekin ducklings in the basement. We had some 50 deg days two weeks ago but it has been close to 0 F the last a few nights.

So I bought the brewers yeast..from The vitamin store, from Solgar...now hoe much do I give and how many times a day???thanks!!

I also have a few sick ducks. My plans are to flush out the 12x5 foot pond today. I have moved the 2 sick ducks and hand feeding the female and watering her by hand too. She looks really bad, but the drake is still eating on his own.

This a great post, and very helpful to me. I have a sick Ancona Drake, weak, can't walk, but still eating and drinking. I started him on an antibacterial in his water, have been doing the baths, feeding him chick starter. He seems to be a little better. I'll get some charcoal and niacin today and see if It helps. Thanks again!
