I just came home to 24 dead birds due to a heat spike today. It's so sad and I feel awful. :( We saw 100 degrees Fahrenheit and they just couldn't handle it. The birds were being trampled by others, had feces on them, and were covered in flys.

What should I do with the carcasses? They could have been dead for 5+ hours and I'd be a bit scared to eat something that got hot.

Any thoughts?

We burn our dead in a burn barrel but we have never had that many. Normally it's one at a time. The yard smells pretty nice on those days. Mmmm cooked chicken.

Aww that's sad! No advice for the ones that are gone. But we try things like dropping a frozen water bottle in their waterers, feeding frozen watermelon. I have also read that them eating during the hottest part of the day isn't good because it heats them up. So sorry for your loss!!

Wow that's rough....

I would bag them up and take them to the dump, or throw them away with the garbage or whatever.

Tough day for sure good luck with the rest

I am thinking that would be illegal, right?

I would bury them. Whew...that sounds like a job! But yeah, probably the best choice.

No not illegal, at least not here

If you a bunch of chickens in a freezer that broke you would throw out them out right? I don't think its really any different. Chicken is chicken

I wouldn't think throwing away dead chickens would be illegal, since in the eyes of the law at that point they're unprocessed meat.

I vote trash can as well, if you're sure nothing will get in it for the free buffet. Then I would make myself scarce when trash service comes to pick it up. :)
