Hey everyone
I have an older hen (6 years old) who has been recently having respiratory issues. It's been going on for months and wasn't a concern until recently when she's been violently sneezing and coughing until her comb is purple and then it goes back to normal. I had one of her sisters die from aspiration in a similar way but I think she mightve had sour crop/impacted crop. Gretchen's crop is fine and I'm not sure what to do. I am not the type of person to bring her to the vet and I like to treat things as naturally as I can. Any suggestions?

Hi,

Can you bring her in and put a humidifier near her to help her breathe? If you don't have one, I've got one of those misters I just take the fragrance out of and use that. If you don't have those, I'd boil some water and set the pan nearby in a safe spot. Her comb is turning purple due to a lack of oxygen.

I'd try giving her an antibiotic. Follow that up with probiotics to prevent any issues with her crop or digestive tract and to help return her flora to normal.

Here's where to get an antibiotic online. It hopefully is just a URI or MG and this then should take care of it.

Tylosin an antibiotic helpful with MG/respiratory symptoms. Dosage is 1 tsp per gallon of water for 5 days. Here are places to order it:
