sickly Polish Frizzle

I purchased 2 polish and 2 polish frizzles from a lady about a month ago. Needless to say they are very poor breeding quality. I have already lost 2. After I lost the first one I treated them all for coccidia. The remaing two seemed to be doing ok besides not gaining much weight. Today I went out and the polish frizzle was acting really weird. She keeps tilting her head to the left, seems very unsteady on her feet, and just all around twitchy. Appears to be neurological to me. Can anyone help please, I have never had this much of a problem with any of my other breeds. I brought her in the house and gave her some tetracycline and electrolytes. She is eating, but very odd. She is about 12 weeks old. Thank you for any info.

It could be a neurological condition caused by genetics, especially if they were inbred. She could have injured her head in a fall, as I've heard crested breeds are more prone to head injuries (as I've experienced myself as well).

Newcastles Disease, Epidemic tremor, Marek's, and Botulism can all cause neurological symptoms including a tilted head, paralysis and other odd behaviors.

I've also heard it could be something as simple as an ear infection causing balance issues, so don't give up on the little girl yet!

It would be good to post in fullest detail at "emergencies, diseases, injuries, cures," thread. Do state age etc.? If possible a short video of her behavior might seal the diagnosis. I hope she will recover. I am thinking head injury myself or disease.

Glad you could join the flock! Sorry to hear you have a sick polish It does sound neurological and could be wry neck. The head tilting does sound like the start of it it. Now is the time to act with vitamins to try and stop her getting any worse. There is is not a quick fix on this but the sooner you act the better chance she has. Make sure she drinks and eats plenty you may need to help her.
