His eyes are swollen too.

partridge rock roo 7 months
2) What is the behavior, exactly.
Lethargic but still crowing and walking around
3) Is there any bleeding, injury, broken bones or other sign of trauma.
No
4) What happened, if anything that you know of, that may have caused the situation.
He has matted feathers and burrs
5) What has the bird been eating and drinking, if at all.
I think hes been eating layer feed
7) What has been the treatment you have administered so far?
Nothing
8 ) What is your intent as far as treatment? For example, do you want to treat completely yourself, or do you need help in stabilizing the bird til you can get to a vet?
Im trying to do this myself.
9) If you have a picture of the wound or condition, please post it. It may help.

thoroughly clean off the feathers and any wound you might find..
post back and describe any wound...if it doesn't look deep or severe..clean with saline solution (available at any pharmacy) dab with diluted betadine..
or a little peroxide can be used for the first cleaning..after that...the diluted betadine (generic betadine is fine)..or treat with antibiotic ointment such as neosporin.

need more info...

where would he have got the burrs?
could he have been attacked? either by other chickens or a predator? dog?

describe his eyes..are they injured/pecked looking?
crusty? mucusy?
is he wheezing?
check him closely..don't pick him up to listen..just stand still and listen, and watch for labored or heavy breathing.
post back if any of these are happening.

to treat the eyes..get some saline eye wash...plain saline eye wash..
ask the pharmacist..
gently squirt the eye with the eye wash.
clean eyes with soft gauze
terramycin eye ointment is available at most farm/feed/livestock supply stores or pet supply..

has he been treated for mites?

describe the droppings..in detail..color and consistency.

separate him to a warm dry protected place with food and water so you can watch him and he can eat..he might be being attacked and bullied away from feed..
mix in some cooked egg yolk with the feed..maybe a little canned cat food..
he might need some grower or chick feed..
get him some vitamins..poultry vitamins, or Poly-vi-sol liquid baby vitamins, Enfamal brand, no iron formula..give 3 drops once a day on beak (so it dribbles in his mouth)..for 5 days..then taper off..

I'll wait for our reply about the checks and questions..
