We had a lot of rain that lasted over a week about two weeks ago. One of my hens eye crusted over and then another hen started with a frothy eye. They have both recovered, but now my little polish hen has a big ugly bump on top of her beak and is lethargic. Are these all related to a decease? I have a photo but not
sure how to attach it.

Go to the Forum FAQ(top of page) and click on it-second paragraph down tells you how to download photos.

Have you noticed a bad smell around their beak?

Here is the picture of the beak. Not sure about the smell. I had not picked them up before they got sick. Yes they are smelly.

Also in Texas where it has been incredibly wet lately... 3 of my 23 girls recently had wet pox and one of them had a similar bump on her beak. I took a warm wet wash cloth and held it on the bump until it loosened and came off. It did not seem to cause my girl any pain and she seemed to breath easier once it was gone. I think hers was built up nasal discharge. Yuck!

I am certainly no expert but I would search the site for respiratory type illnesses and treat accordingly. With the wet pox I used Tylan-50 injectable, .5ml 2x per day for 5 days and it cleared up quite nicely! I've read pox is a virus and must run its course but I don't think my girls would have made it without the meds.

Godspeed,
Laura
