Siding my first coop

My coop area will be 4'x6'. I plan on using horizontal siding for my coop to match my house. Do I need to put OSB 1/2" plywood first then start siding or can just put siding right to the 2x4's? I do live in Nebraska so winters will be cold.

When you say "siding" do you mean ship/lap or tongue & groove ? I went with T&G and don't plan to have any drafts.

It's tongue and groove and will be painted. It's cottage lap siding.
