sigh, I need a hug

I'm sorry you had to go through that! I know it was hard on you! Don't beat yourself up, you didn't know how they were going to do it.

I read on here that started fluid (for the car) on a cotton ball will put them to sleep painlessly! Maybe that would be an option in the future. Hopefully there won't be a next time, but having it handy might ease your mind.

Thanks everyone! I feel much better today, though it was sad to look into the tubs where they lived. These two were particularly hard because I tried so hard to save them but couldn't. I was just really disappointed in myself and bummed that I had to officially give up on them. At least they're happy where they are now.

Ohiofarmgirl, that is a much nicer way to think about it. But it still wasn't pleasant to hear. The vet I normally take them to (couldn't this time cause she's too far and I couldn't afford to take them to her) is so kind to the animals. She wraps them in a towel and coos to them and makes sure they're warm and comfortable. And she puts them to sleep before she euthanizes them so they really haven't the slightest idea what's happening. I was just hoping that this vet would be just as kind.

farrier, haha, I'm gweeby about dead hatching eggs too.

I actually bury all that don't hatch.

patryds, does it actually kill or just put them to sleep? That's good to know though.
