I've been heading down to the same lake because the fishing at this time is very good, the bass have spawned and are very aggressive protecting their young. After getting there and setting up my rod I saw a lady that was scanning the lake shores with a bag of bread. It was obviously the same lady who abandoned the ducklings, but alone. Heck, I was even surprised she came back after what she did, let alone take something to feed the now gone ducklings! After a few minutes of standing there looking around she started to head back to the path to the parking lot. The path entrance was right next to the shore, were I was fishing. I tried to ignore her, but I could easily tell she was ignoring me at the same time. The closer she got the more I remembered the poor ducklings screaming, which made me even more ticked off and prone to saying something I shouldn't. As soon as she turned around and started down the path I immedietly blurt out "The ducks are dead, I watched them get eaten." without thinking. What happened next is what I didn't expect, she turned around and looked at me with tears in her eyes, said nothing, and hurried her pace back to the parking lot. Whoa...kind of a shocker for someone who dumped some ducklings on the lake to fend for themselves. But I did feel bad afterwards. She could have been smart about it and posted an ad of craigslist. But in a way, I'm glad she was sad. Maybe next time she'll think twice about doing something so irresponsible for an adult. And hopefully she won't bother getting anymore pets. Being only 15 I would have known better than to do what she did.

oh that is sad but i still want the tsc store to sell them cause thats were i got them. but i do wish they were more strict in which they sell them too. i got three ducks from them and they just love it here they have so much space to run and rome i love them and would never do that to my pets also wouldnt sunny run from you?

That is so terrible! I wonder is that is something she has done before? I bet this happens all the time too. How horrible and she probably thought she was doing something good for them, she probably told her child how happy they would be. Simply shameful and incredibly sad. So sorry for the little guys and that child who will now grow up thinking her ducks lived long lives in the pond and may do it herself one day. almost unbelievable that people can be so thoughtless, stupid and cruel. I just donot understand why she bought them and did not do her research to begin with? makes no sense.

Being raised alone from week 2 after her sibling died, she's completely human imprinted....to me anyways. Most of the time I can take her to lakes/parks and take a walk with her around the shore. 90% of the time she follows without a problem even though she's 10 months old. Some times she feels a little independant and will walk maybe 30 feet away from me. I can pick her up without a problem. Not to mention she views me as her "mate". A single touch to the back and she'll drop to the grond and flatten out, typical female duck mating behavior. And she only does that with me.

Now about the lady, it's a shame that research didn't come to her mind. I mean 15 minutes on a google search could have saved 2 innocent lives. After what happened today I found she isn't THAT heartless...but she is irresponsible and shouldn't own any pet if she doesn't research or plan ahead for them. Not the thing I would expect from a mature adult who has a child....

That is so cute i tried to get mine to like me like that but it just doesnt seem to work. and i totally agree with you that was dumb and irresponsible. and you are venting to the right people we talk about it all the time. like i recently went to the tsc store and there was this baby chick that was sick and getting stepped on i told them about it and they didnt even help it. i took it home nursed it and gave it to family with 34 chickens and they just adored it.

Duck Boy, I'm proud of you. You did good. Just a thought, maybe we, Chicken and Duck owners, should give TSC and other feed suppy stores, etc our phone number to post and tell buyers if they decided to get rid of their babies when they grow tired of them, that we will take them and find them a home. this is what I intend to do when I start selling some of my chicks. What do you all think?

Well that just gives the buyers an idea that they can just buy chicks and ducklings and expect to give them away when they get hard to take care of. Thats not how it should be, they should be buying it knowing what is involved.
