Hi

Well I have2 chicken(breed unknown). THey are 5 months old. What are signs that they are male and or female? I have posted on this site and people say 2 girls. I had 2 people from local feed stores come by and say a boy and girl. So what are gender signs

NOTE: They aren't crowing.

Im sure if you posted pictures we could tell you and possibly identify the breeds also.

normal signs at 5 months. you can totally tell (normally at least) if you have a roo or a hen. Hens will have round tail feathers, while roos will have pointed saddle feathers (around the tail, on the back) and the sickle feathers on the tail.

I dont always judge by comb because this method has been proven wrong many times.

Im glad you waited til they were this old to tell, makes it much easier if you wait

The v si the pattern in the wing so I guess they are girls. The u is the curve

When you say pointed, do you mean like this?(below)

So feather sexing is the way to decied?

hEre is a post where people said girls, and it has pics. I want to know since they have grown but have the same feathers.

To me they look like wyandottes, even though they are RIR and some other breed.
Are females better than males in your opinion.

Some are some are not, all depends on the breed. I have 6 EE's that are satins own daughters, I can't touch them but I have 2 Australorps and a JGiant that are very sweet.
