What are the signs that a bird is thirsty or not drinking enough water?

I would say a thirsty chicken, would probably go looking at it's watering source alot, back and forth. Say you use a bucket, or even a special poultry waterer, then they would keep going back to it over and over. As far as physical signs, you really can't tell......on a hot day a chicken will pant, and hold out their wings so the air can get to their body, but they really don't have any physical symptons to thirst that I know of.

I always know when something is up with my chickens, because they act differently. And they run to me, in a very urgent manner when they need more food. I always keep the feeders filled and same with the water, but the few times they were out of feed, they really hung around waiting for me. I imagine they would do the same thing if they were out of water.
