This is Sigyn, and she has conquered many a trials in her short 12 (14? I don't know) weeks. It starts with my favorite hen dying, and the quick scramble after to find a replacement in my small flock. After a few days of scrolling Craigslist I came across 8 week leghorn crosses, seeing it as a perfect opportunity I went out to their hobby farm, and picked out two young hens. (Who were running free with quite a few hens and a few too many roosters.) I payed $8 for them and happily drove back home. That's when her troubles came to my attention, you may have noticed her missing toe, due to poor care she had a thread wrapped tightly around her toe and binding her whole foot together. After caring for the foot and removing string from inside her foot she started to show improvement, a few days later we clipped the dried dead toe off and she started to gain muscle as to walk, which she couldn't hardly do at that point. Life went on for a few weeks and she's threatened with Cocci from existing hens, proving that what killed my favorite was in fact Cocci. She made it past that and I thought the speed bumps were over, but then the silly thing swallowed an apricot pit! She quickly developed an impacted and sour crop, I managed to vomit her and gave her doses of oil and an Epsom salt drench for 2 days, which seemed to allow the pit to pass, as I can no longer feel it and she has no sourness, she seems to be recovering like a champ, my question is, do any of you have a hen or roo that slayed the odds and came out a champ? Chickens seem to be so delicate and so hardy at the same time.
