Just seen a thread about silage and am now wondering can you feed silage to chickens if so it will be ten times cheaper than feed as i live on a farm and there always plenty left over!

There is a long thread about fermented feed here on BYC. Many people feed this, and it is mixed differently and contains different mixtures depending on the person's choice of feed. It is basically chicken feed plus water plus unpasteurized apple cider vinegar (or another starter such as yogurt, kefir, buttermilk). It needs to ferment (while being stirred and kept wet) for at least 3 days, and you can start feeding. I would read the thread for different techniques.

Just use the search feature in BYC here for "fermented feed" and you will find several threads. There is also a blog out there called "natural chicken keeping" that has good instructions for fermenting feed, google it.
