Silence Is Not Golden Here

Saw the first copperhead of the year last night. Surprised it took this long.

Beautiful snake! Incidentally, if you decapitate a snake, the head can remain conscious and aware of its surroundings for up to an hour afterwards - and bite you. Snakes are beneficial. Don't screw with them, they don't screw with you. Just need to keep your buffet snake-proofed.

If you're going to have a bird feeder, expect to attract birds.

I had a deer mouse recently move in. A healthy female, adult but with no signs of being pregnant or nursing. How do I know this? Because I put out traps... about a dozen traps, under all the counters. None of them caught anything.

She climbed into the empty dog food bag and got stuck in there, couldn't get back out. Which is how I caught her. So I took her up by the prairie falcon nest up-canyon a ways, and turned her loose there, about fifteen miles from my house. A couple days ago, I found new mouse spore... and the traps have not caught anything... I've left another empty dog food bag sitting out.
Th snakes don't eat that kind of mouse?

That's why you bury the head after you cut it off!!
