Silence Is Not Golden Here

I feel ya! I have five bantam cochins - they ALL went broody at the same time. It took two weeks in the rabbit hutch to break them! They just now (after two more weeks) started laying again. I have to snatch the eggs as soon they lay them so they don't get any ideas.
I did let one hatch some pheasant eggs and she did a brilliant job!

Yes! The little bantam Cochin are probably the best little moms there are but boy do they LOVE the job!!!

We have had a broody Maran sitting for two months now. It’s looking like she’s only got two viable eggs out of the eight she’s had. I had started an experimental incubator with some old eggs that started developing so I put them under her, I guess I’ll be giving them to the other. I don’t know what we’ll do with all these chicks, we don’t need them at all. :barnie

I gave my Marans eggs and she ate them and then she became "unbroody" all of the sudden. As if it were all a ploy to trick me into leaving her with eggs long enough to eat them. She's honestly my least favorite bird I have by a long shot.

Ours ate an egg too, but she hasn’t since. She’s on Day 17 with her second round now. I wish she would have been broken when she did ate the egg but nope.

Geez, that’s a great horror movie plot.
I had a nutso hen that I hated. In hindsight I should’ve eaten her or given her away when she went off the rails. Would’ve been much more peaceful.

I keep trying to talk my husband into doing it. I thought about it but I want to watch someone first. The only hitch is my children have certain ones they claim as theirs and she is one. If it weren't for them she would've been gone one way or another a LONG time ago!
