This is my first chicken and he's got me under his spell. What looks good and not so good? What do I need to look for in hen to better the breed. I know he's very young but I couldn't wait any longer for everyone to see him. I named him Ozzy and I have two 11mo. hens with short legs. I'm reading everything about everything I see on here. I want to be a good mom and want a good type but this boy just makes me smile all the time. So this is where I will start. If he doesn't cut the mustard then I'll keep him with the EE and take up the eggs every day. He's on Purine and loves yogurt the

young hens and me.

He has what looks to be a very nice dark comb and his feathers appear to be very soft. Both of those are pluses.

He looks really tall to me (maybe it's just how he's standing, but there's nothing in the pic for me to really compare him to)...how much does he weigh? His beard could be larger, in my opinion.

Overall, he's a handsome rooster, much better looking than some others I've seen people using to breed.

But, I don't know if he actually is breeder quality, his shape doesn't look great to me. If your hens are small and short backed, maybe the chicks would be better. Couldn't hurt to try a batch and see how they come out...

Do you have any other pictures of him?

Wonder what other people think?

For 15 weeks he looks really nice. At that age mine usually don't look half as filled out. Way too early to say how his type will pan out, but I am going to assume that he will fill in to look less tall and more rounded. The taller boys tend to breed naturally better; the rounded ones are more prone to need AI.

I'd say he has a lot of potential.

He seems tall to me as well. He's a little smaller then EE's the same age.

Does this picture help any? He is dark. I'm just hoping it doesn't turn red one morning after eating strawberries.

LOL. He would look funny then. I would like SQ silkies and need experance before I put real money for SQ. A coop is a lot of work and money. Not many SQ or even silkies out here. To hot to ship now. I have a dream, some land and a hammer.

This is my husband and two Of my 5 grandkids with our first egg that we got from one of our two silkie hens that we got here on BYC in Cumberland City. We're happy to have.
I think I have this picture thing down now.

I'm very sad today. I had to put Ozzy up for sale so I can get on with my upper class silkies. I've been putting this off buy putting him in with my Easter eggs. Now I need to get a Ameraucana rooster so I can hatch some eggs. Ozzy would not make go babies. Easter eggers with black skin and five toes

. I do love him but I need to upgrade for the well being of my income. I don't have a place to keep him and I don't want him by his self. If I need to I will let him go with an other silkie hen. He was my very first chick and or chicken.

I love you Ozzy

Then you need to make a road trip south to Lawrence County, I have a couple of very nice silver gene boys for you to chose from.

May I ask why you have chosen to sell him? From the pics and his age he looked like there was certainly potential there.

That's very sweet but Ozzy does not have a walnut comb and other things are wrong. I have 4 yes four other boys that are well take a look at three of them. The other one jumped out of the picture, shy.

You've certainly got a couple of prospects there. The last pic, not so sure of unless he was standing funny.

Which one is it that has his butt to the camera? He looks good from that direction, how is the rest of him?
