Hi all,

It may be too early for this but I'm new to silkies and would love tips on how to sex them.

There are 3, I suspect 2 boys and 1 girl but I am basing this solely on the comb and the fact the one I think is female is feathering out slower.

Pure silkies can't be sexed until around 4-5 months unless DNA tested. I've raised and bred them for going on 8 years and really tried to find out sooner. I'm always 50% right though. 😊

If they're a cross breed, then it's possible but still tougher than other breeds.

Yes, too young to know for sure, but I would be very surprised if the first one turned out to be a pullet. That's a fairly big comb for his age.

Thank you, I thought that might be the case but I couldn't remember for sure. I could have googled I know but there is so much junk now it's hard to know what is correct.

They should be pure, they are from a popular breeder so I would hope so! 😬

Thank you, I was wondering if there is the odd one that would make people say that is almost for sure a roo but it is a big comb to me and these are the only 3 I've seen in real life 😄
