silkie and orp crosses....* UPDATE*

I'm not good at sexing birds right now, but hope I'll get better with practice. But would feel remiss if I didn't share the following link on "VENT SEXING" with the group.

It may be useful for the future.

Good thing on the Silkie being a Roo, especially if he's breeder quality... It'd be interesting to see how the offspring look like if you decide to cross him back to the F1 girls (once you identify them them;))
Here's my Silkie Roo, Gallo:

He's all wet in this pic, but he's got a fuller crest to the point you can't even see his eyes anymore. I'll be crossing him with a couple of my EEs and Leghorn mix... and line breeding him for future generations.

Let us know when you get the first egg!... or the first crow!

sadly i got rid of the roo as he was too agressive to have around children, but i doo have his brother, fatherand uncle so will try crossing the girls back to him.

i also have a second lot of silkie crosses, these are silkie roo over new hampshire hens and RIR hens

then a third lot which are araucana roo over silkie mom

if i can catch the little blighters i'll gladly share some pics of those? they are still young so not even attempting to sex them yet (they're around 6-8 weeks) but the colours are pretty.
