i am really new to these little fluffy chickens. just bought a black silkie and a white/black splash today at the swap at the TSC in ocala. i don't know too much about the breed really. one big questions is how to tell hen from rooster? any i would love any other advice about these breeds so i feel a little better about raising them.

Congrats on your new additions! Is there any way to post some pictures of them? That would help us determine the sex more accurately for you.

i also just noticed that there are green leg bands on both of them too...

Need whole body shots on each to try to tell; preferably profile so we can look for streamers and type. Easier to tell if they are standing up, not being held.

hopefully these pics will help a little more to pick them out. is it a cockrell or a pullet? i cant even tell by the slightest amount.

I'm inclined to say the parrtidge is a pullet, but the body really doesn't show as much penciling as it should for a pullet. The splash looks like a cockerel, but again, no guarantees.

Can anyone maybe post a pick of a rooster and one of a hen so I can maybe see if I see the difference. Maybe if u post a pic u can point out the difference. These little birds are tricky
