hi there, totally new to this. Im from New Zealand and have just really got into silkies. I have 4 adults and just hatched 14 babies. all white.
I really want to show the rooster at an upcoming show but i literally have no idea what I am doing. I have done lots of research but its still in chicken show speak and i dont really get it. so....... from my research my boy seems to be pretty good but wondering about the feet , he has 5 toes but on both is like this extra tiny mini claw thing , like an extra toenail on the inside of all the toes (inner thigh side) (hard to explain) is this bad? does it disqualify him? cant find anything on the net about this? is he a special one?

Thanks heaps , hopefully someone reads this

How old is he it could be spurs.

Also I don't think he would be disqualified. But he would be deducted points for it.

But it sounds like a spur.

Since you are in a different country it is best to contact someone there about what is correct and what isn't. Standards vary from one country to another.

If you want to show him then do it. Even if it is a DQ in your part of the world it will give you an opportunity to learn what is good about him and what isn't. It also gives you access to other breeders that can help guide you in where to go next.

Feet are some of the easiest fixes where these guys are concerned so if his peeps turn out great then it is worth keeping him.

I have 12 Silkie eggs in the bator due to hatch in 7 days. I will have splash, white, black, buff and blue. The partridge ones where not fertile and they where the ones I was so excited about. But will be happy with what hatches. I had silkies over 10 years ago but they where the standard. From what I understand they are hard to find now..this was what the woman I bought the eggs from told me.

It could be the beginning of his spurs or it could be an extra sixth toenail, which is a disqualification in this country. Do a search on the web for articles on silkie feet for a good picture. HatTrick used to have such an article, but not sure if they still do.

I think I know what you mean about the claw thing, I have a rooster with a really long 5th toe and then for the 4th its just a loose claw but no toe bone.

His 4th toe is the tiny thing right below the 5th.
